International First-Year Admissions
Application Deadlines
Submit all required materials at least 3 months before your intended enrollment.
- Fall Semester: July 1 (preferred)
- Spring Semester: December 1 (preferred)
Required Application Materials
- Completed Common Application or SBU Application
- Official high school transcript (translated into English)
- One letter of recommendation
- Personal essay
- Proof of English proficiency (see below)
- SAT/ACT scores are optional
English Proficiency
Submit one of the following:
- TOEFL - Recommended score of 80 or higher
- IELTS - Recommended score of 6 or higher
- Duolingo English Test (minimum score: 105)
- SAT or ACT (minimum Reading score: 480 SAT or 21 ACT to waive TOEFL/IELTS)
Applicants who do not meet the SAT/ACT reading minimum may be reviewed individually and may be asked to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
Transcript Evaluation
If you attended a school outside the U.S., your academic records must be evaluated by an approved credential evaluation service, such as:

Previous College or University Coursework
- International universities: A credential evaluation is required to transfer credits.
- Fewer than 24 U.S. college credits: Submit your international transcript, secondary school transcript, and English proficiency test scores.
- U.S. colleges/universities: Transfer admission requirements apply.

Admission decisions are sent in writing after your application has been reviewed.
